Imphal College, the parent college of present-day Manipur University, was established in 1952 for which Imphal, the capital of Manipur, was chosen as its location. Housing in a vast 5.483 acre space, the college is endowed with a variety of courses offered at three levels of study. Imphal College has a total of 2,944 students and ninety two faculties which makes the college alive. It is affiliated to the NAAC and has a strong educational standard which tells much about its educational strength. With 17 courses, this affiliated college is quite popular among students who chose various fields of study.

The Imphal College has made available lots of facilities meant to support the student’s learning process in every facet. A large central library with 80 seated capacity built with ₹20 lakh seating capacity, 28000 books e-journal and e-books through NLIST program. The library is bar coded, fairly modern and completely computerized with a view of providing best services to the students and the faculty. As for the concern of athletes, the college has put up a facility for an indoor stadium with a multi-gymnasium. There is also a swimming pool which is provided with classes for students and staff as well. The campus now boasts of modem laboratory facilities such as the Biotech hub and the Tissue Culture Laboratory that enhances the research activities’ culture. Also, the college has a girls hostel with 40 students’ seating capacity which provides a secured accommodation to the female conviction.

Imphal College is well endowed with the undergraduate academic programmes in arts and sciences. Their full-time offerings comprise 17 regular courses such as BA in Geography, philosophy and Political Science, all offered in interval form. Together, the total student intake for all courses is 2,944 including high capacity for higher learning that St. Alberts college provides in the region. The admission statistics are quite stable and while concrete data on graduations in the latest year is missing, the flow of graduates is far from negligible and can co-advance various branches.

The admission criteria for Imphal College involves merit basis and in following the norms of the Directorate of University and Higher Education Manipur Government. Applicants are admitted based on the list of qualified students Determined by the directorate. Therefore, the college follows the CUET UG entrance test for admission and is in consonance with the CUET entrance test norms applicable at the most of the universities and colleges for under graduate admission in the country.
