Formerly called the National Institute of Design, the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design was set up in 1995 and is situated in Jaipur in Rajasthan. Since its establishment, IICD, affiliated to BPUT, has managed to create a unique identity in the field of craft & design. This institute teaches a total of 18 courses and included in the three programmes these are concentration on the soft material and hard material and fired material and fashion clothing and jewellery and crafts communication. IICD has a strong faculty base of 17 proficient educators, who offer one on one interaction with the students to give the best of their abilities.
Indian Institute of Crafts and Design has a number of active facilities and infrastructures to enable it achieve its educational function. Accommodations include standard classrooms, as well as well equipped laboratories and workshops which enhance the practical aspect in learning. KRC is the Knowledge Resource Centre of the institute, which boasts of a vast collection of books and related study material on Indian art, crafts, design science and the related disciplines. To accommodate female students, IICD has equipped a hostel with bare minimum facilities like air cooled rooms, drinking water facility through RO system and 100 % power backup. Student well-being is also valued here: the institute houses a physician, who comes in weekly, a yoga trainer and a psychologist too.
There is evidence that the academic profile of IICD is quite broad with a rich set of educational programmes offered. Currently the institute offers 18 programmes and among them there are both undergraduate and postgraduate ones. Every course is offered full-time so the experience a student gets will be all-encompassing.

The IICD is one of those illustrious institutes as an institution for crafts and design education. The IICD is multidimensional in its undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering various disciplines of design in hard materials, soft materials, fired materials, fashion clothing, jewellery, and crafts communication. Admission to the institute is based on aptitude, creativity, and academic performance. Usually, the admission cycles for IICD coincide with the academic calendar year, which, most commonly, is between August and September. The minimum qualification for undergraduate programs is to have completed 10+2 through a recognized board. Following performance in the foundation semesters and aptitude, specialization will be allotted to students as per the decision of a committee constituted by IICD.

Admission Process Degree Wise
B.Des: The institute has B.Des programs with six specializations: Hard Material Design, Soft Material Design, Fired Material Design, Fashion Clothing Design, Jewellery Design, and Crafts Communication. There are, in total, 180 intake seats for the B.Des programs. For specializations, students are selected by performance in foundation semesters and their aptitude. Fee for the entire B.Des program is Rs 1,269,200.
M.Des: The same specializations are with regard to the M.Des programs being offered by the institution. The total intake for these programs is 90 seats. As with the B.Des program, selection shall also depend on performance in foundation semesters and aptitude. Fee similar to that for the M.Des program is Rs 1,269,200.
M.Voc: IICD offers M.Voc programs in Soft Material Design, Hard Material Design, Fired Material Design, Fashion Clothing Design, Crafts Communication, and Jewellery Design. Overall intake for M.Voc programs is 90 seats. Not least of all, graduates from disciplines other than Design/Architecture can pursue M.Voc by taking a one-year PG foundation course at IICD, giving a total of 3 years for non-design background graduates.
