Established in 1966, the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun is the constituent unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Government of India. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing currently offers the Postgraduate, PG Diploma and Short Term Certificate programmes. At the PG level, IIRS Dehradun offers M.Tech and M.Sc programmes. 

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun also offers the PG Diploma programme and 3 short-term level programmes. Admission to the M.Sc and PG Diploma programmes at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing is made on the basis of the Academic Profile of the candidates and admission to the M.Tech programme at IIRS Dehradun is made on the basis of GATE score. The Government-sponsored candidates are not required to appear in the Entrance Examination. The candidates are further required to appear for an Interview. Admission to the short-term programmes at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun is made as per the norms of the University and the Institution.

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing offers the M.Sc and PGD programmes in collaboration with the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente (UT), the Netherlands. The M.Tech programme of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. All the programmes at Andhra University are accredited by NBA and NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade.
