Indira Gandhi Girls Degree College, Gorakhpur, was established in the year 2005 as an affiliated college at Budh Vihar Colony, Kajakpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is an institution approved by the NCTE, especially for teacher education. There is a campus with an area of just 2.66 acres. The present enrollment is 385, while the teaching faculty comprises a strength of 21.

The other significant course is D.El.Ed. standing for Diploma in Elementary Education. This two-year full-time course also has an approved intake of students standing at 50 for each academic year. These two courses introduce students into the teaching profession based on pedagogical skills and educational theory. 

Indira Gandhi Girls Degree College admits students based on merit, in accordance with the marks obtained by them in qualifying examinations and/or entrance examinations. For B.Ed, admissions are done on the basis of the policy framed by the state government, UT administration, and university. For the D.El.Ed course, admission is as per the policy decided by the state government or UT administration.
