The Institute of Environmental Studies, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, is a front line institute especially crafted for environmental education and research. This institute was started in the year 2006 and has fast emerged as a front line institute for the cause of environmental studies in the Indian state of Haryana. It is situated in the historic city of Kurukshetra that offers postgraduate programs in a wide range of disciplines with the aim of meeting the increasing demand for environmental experts. The institute has 6 faculty members that will help foster a focused learning environment for students who are passionate and enthusiastic about environmental science and management. The Institute of Environmental Studies is equipped with modern facilities for conducting academic programs and other research activities.

The college library houses approximately 800 books, periodicals, and reference materials relevant to the environment. Library resources cover diverse aspects of environmental studies, including ecology, environmental management, pollution control and worldwide climatic change. The institute is also equipped with fully functional experimental laboratories, which provide an opportunity to learn through doing about environmental monitoring and analysis. 

The Institute itself offers courses at almost all levels of environmental education. The significant ones are four. M. Tech in Energy and Environmental Management, M. Sc in Environmental Science, PG Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing, and Ph.D. in Environmental Science. All these shall be full-time courses to provide the students with much-needed in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the chosen areas.

Admission to the Institute of Environmental Studies programs. For the M.Tech in Energy and Environmental Management the admission is through entrance test or on a valid GATE score.  The PG diploma in Environment Impact Assessment and Auditing is offered at strictly merit-based admission with marks secured in the previous degrees of the applicant having weightage.
