The Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies IFPGS is one of the constituent college of the Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University established during the year 2017. This specialized institution situated in Vaniyanchavadi, Chennai is in the niche of the fisheries. Covering only 14 acres in size, IFPGS provides a concentration learning atmosphere with 129 students. The faculty of the institute comprises 8 people that monitor the 9 courses and 4 degree programs offered at the institute. Thus, IFPGS is distinguished by its focus on the fisheries sciences and the range of programs which is impossible to find in other educational institutions such as Fish Biotechnology, Fish Genetics and Breeding and Fisheries Enterprise Management.

This learning institution is capable of offering quality education through their facilities, thus, IFPGS has fully equipped learning institutions. The institute provides different hostels for both male and female students to ensure that they afford comfortable place to stay for learning. A good library is an essential home of knowledge resources, which enhances academic and research work. The institute provides a wide spectrum of postgraduate and doctorate courses and each of them are offered as full time courses to equip the students with precise knowledge along with quality technique in vying fields of fisheries science. The course offerings include six Master's programs: Master of Fisheries Science in Fish Biotechnology, Fish Genetics and Breeding, Fish Pharmacology and Toxicology, Basic Science, Fish Nutrition and Feed Technology and MBA Fisheries Enterprise Management. For prospective postgraduate students, IFPGS provides Doctor of Philosophy – Fish Biotechnology and Doctor of Philosophy – Life Sciences. Also, the institute has M.Sc in Fish Biotechnology, offered as a self financing.
