The Institute of Legal Studies and Research was established in 2010. It is one of the constituent colleges under Mangalayatan University situated in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Located on Mathura-Aligarh Highway in Beswan, it aims to provide quality legal education. The institute, being BCI-approved, offers various law programmes for aspiring professionals in the legal field.
The Institute of Legal Studies and Research has a comprehensive array of modern facilities to aid academic and personal development. The Mangalayatan University Central Library houses over 40,000 books and has subscriptions of around 300 journals and periodicals. It has a rich collection of research and industrial reports. The Sumangalam Hostel has been Wi-Fi enabled campus wide, allowing students uninterrupted internet access through a 1 Gbps connection. A fully air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 300 is used for a variety of academic and cultural events. The institute has provided separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, which are taken care of by wardens and security personnel on the campus 24/7. Other facilities include well-equipped gymnasium, on-campus healthcare facilities, a centralised air-conditioned mess, and various sports facilities for cricket, basketball, table tennis, and badminton.
The Institute of Legal Studies and Research has a total of five courses consisting of four degrees and one doctoral programme. All are full-time courses, making it intense and focused study for legal education. There are postgraduate studies like one year and two years LLM. Those interested in the advanced study of researches in law can apply to the institute's Ph.D. course.

The admission process in the Institute of Legal Studies and Research is designed for choosing the most capable and motivated students for its programmes. For BA LLB and LLB, a candidate must appear for the Mangalayatan University Entrance Test or CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) along with a personal interview. Two- or one-year LLM programme follows a similar admission process taking into account scores from the either entrance test of the University or CLAT and interviewing student. This comprehensive selection process ensures that the institute admits students who are well-suited for the rigorous legal education it offers.
