JDT Islam College of Physiotherapy, Calicut: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

JDT Islam College of Physiotherapy, Calicut, started in the year 2005 is one of the leading recognised colleges to offer physiotherapy courses in Kerala, India. Situated in Vellimadukunnu, Calicut the affiliated college is spread over a 3.36 acre campus with all the right teaching ambience for aspiring physiotherapists. The college has undergone through assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) proving its goal of quality education. JDT Islam College admits at present 218 students and the faculty comprises 10 teachers allowing the College to offer individual focus and practical experience to the learners. The institution has four specific physiotherapy courses; under part and post part courses, which are fashioned to address different areas of Physiotherapy.

JDT Islam College of Physiotherapy has various facilities that are sophisticated to improve facilities to the college students. Based at the centre of these facilities is the library that boasts a collection of over 2,000 resources, in form of books, journals and theses, multimedia amongst others. This knowledge base is supported by audio-visual aids, internet connection, making sure that the students have the most up to date information. The fact that college insists on the applicability of knowledge has seen it establish departmental labs that enable students to practice back in college. In addition to the exercise gym, an open gym on the ground floor of the building is designed to accommodate physical activities and rehabilitation training equipment with the most modern apparatus commonly used in physical therapies. It also has a college auditorium for it’s functions and seminars to enhance the academic environment of the college. Sport complex is provided to support the holistic approach while student and guest accommodations are also included to ensure that guest faculty and relative of the student have a place to rest.

This college of physiotherapy, known as JDT Islam College, offers four full-time programmes, at both bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. The BPT programme is the main course within the college that ensures that students receive an all round course of four years that prepares them for the necessities of the job. At the postgraduate level, the college extends three interrelated but unique Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) programmes for a critical area of physiotherapy practice. Some of these specialisations are MPT in Musculoskeletal and Sports, MPT in Neurology and MPT in Cardio Respiratory and Intensive Care. Every one of these pg programmes lasts two academic years, thus providing sufficient time for students to study the specifics of a particular field. Although the number of seats for each of the programmes mentioned above has not been provided, however the total gross enrolment ratio of the college is kept at a constant 218 so as to provide an adequate student faculty ratio.

The admission process of the JDT Islam College of Physiotherapy has been developed in such a way that the admission committee selects the candidates that have good statistical background and show great interest to the physiotherapy science. However, the details of the admission criteria are not mentioned; it is directly related to GP, ranks of entrance examination, and academic performance of students, sometimes, even they conduct interviews.
