Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in 1981, situated in Jorhat, Assam. JKM lies in a plot of land spread over 5.99 acres for varied undergraduate courses. The college currently has an 'A' grade from the NAAC body and enjoys a well-compiled strength of 992 students. The institution has a fair gender ratio of 58% male students and 42% female students, fostering a healthy and equal opportunity environment among students. It has 42 faculty strengths and 18 courses in seven different degree programs with the art form and scientific specialisation. 

The working library in Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is well equipped with books and periodicals and acts as the centre for academic and literary excellence by publishing research journals such as 'Candescent' and 'Janani'. A modern computer laboratory is well equipped with 30 terminals for the development of digital literacy among the students. The college provides various indoor and outdoor sports facilities along with a gymnasium within reach to develop physical health. A state-of-the-art digital conference hall, which can accommodate 150 persons, is provided for all major meetings and seminars. A Health Care Centre with first-aid and medical aid facilities remains in operation during college hours. 

This institution provides a total of 18 courses, including only full-time undergraduate programmes. Among them are 7 BA, 6 B.Sc majors, and other specialised courses.

The admission policy of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is based on inclusiveness and meritocracy. Most of the students are from the local area, and this is can be best proven by the mere fact that 100% of its students belong to the state of Assam.
