JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled Mysore (JSSPDA) is a special institution set up in the year 1991. Karnataka boasts of this autonomous polytechnic established to offer quality education to students with disability housed in the JSS Technical Institutions’ Campus, Mysuru. Affiliated to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, JSSPDA offers seven diploma programs spread over different engineering and technical disciplines. Currently, the institute has a faculty team of total 33 members and intends to provide access in education for students with disabilities.
To assist the education process of its students JSSPDA offers a number of facilities. The campus has adequate infrastructural support in the IT field with three computer facilities comprising modern systems, multimedia projectors and Internet services. The institute boasts a library of over 13 500 volumes of books in various disciplines to support the institute’s teaching as well as learning. Concerning the practical experiences, JSSPDA provides fairly specific departmental laboratories needed in skill acquisition. The institute also concerns the students’ welfare, where students enjoy free consultations and medicines from the faculty’s Health Centre manned by qualified personnel.
At present the institute has seven full time diploma courses, which gears took three years to complete. They include Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Architectural Assistantship, Commercial Practice, Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Technology, Computer Applications and Apparel Design and Fabrication Technology diplomas. The total intake for these courses differs, most of programs are approved for 60 students, Jewellery Design & Computer Applications 30 students each.
