Kamala Baliga College of Education, Kumta was set up in 1972 and it is a reputed college exclusively catering to the cause of teacher training. Sitting in Kumta, Karnataka, this co-educational college functions as a teaching affiliated college and is recognised by NCTE- National Council for Teacher Education. Based in a 42 acre test site, the college provides the ideal environment for students wishing to take up teaching careers. The programmes offered in this institute have a combined strength of 175 students with a faculty of 6 people,which makes each student valued. At present, the college has only two teaching courses available in education, taking courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Kamala Baliga College of Education teaches two general full-time programmes in the education field. The B.Ed course is offered with an intake capacity of 100 students and the M.Ed programme takes 50 students. The requirements for both programmes are to last two years while delivering thorough coursework in educational theory and practical application. The college has embraced these core education programmes as a way of bring out skilled teaching professionals in today’s professional world.
Since the Kamala Baliga College of Education adheres to merit-based system of admission for its courses, being an autonomous and self-financing institution, admission policies followed in the institution are in promixity with rules and regulations framed by the state government, UT administration and the affiliated university. In the context of the B.Ed programme, entrance is conducted on merit in the qualifying examination and/or performance in the entrance test. The M.Ed programme also follows the said criterion with reference to the performance of the candidate in the qualifying examination or an entrance test. It helps in that it provides the institution with a way in which deserving candidates have to be given the chance to achieve their educational dreams. Alumni are actively involved through the association of a college which play an important role in the growth of the college and also do promote the college in the field of education.
