Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (KIMS), which was started in the year 2009, is a prime medicosyllab situated at Palayanoor, Tamilnadu. Located over a vast campus of 30.76 acres, KIMS is home to 24 courses unravelled across four degree categories and admitting 600 students. NAAC accredited the institute and it is also approved by National Medical Commission (NMC). Due to its affiliation to the government, KIMS is composed of students with 88% from within the state, and 12% from other states. Out of the total student strength of the institute in its postgraduate programmes 52% of the student population is male while the rest 48% is female with the faculty strength of total 171.
Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre has offered numerous provisions in order to improve the delivery of education to its students. This is complemented with available hostels for both sexes to improve the accommodation standards on the campus. For health care requirement of the students a well furnished health centre with first aid facilities is available. The institute has audio-video facilities, a well-equipped banquet hall, a centralised library, a computer lab, and sports facilities that include a gym, basket ball, football, volleyball, tennis, etc. KIMS also provides good computing facilities, canteen, a central acoustic hall to conduct sessions and seminars, transportation facilities and other pivotal facilities to students and staffs so that they can enrich their academic performances effectively.
It provides 24 medical programmes ranging from undergraduate their MBBS to the graduate level and different postgraduate specialisations. Currently, KIMS offers twenty four programmes out of which one hundred and fifty students are admitted to MBBS course. The postgraduate offered programmes encompasses MD and MS degree in General Medicine, General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Radio Diagnosis, and Emergency Medicine and several other fields. The institute also has B.Sc programmes in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology, Medical Record Science, Medical Laboratory Technology and Radiology Imaging Technology.
Originally, KIMS conducts its admission through National entrance examination and tests. For MBBS, admissions are made strictly based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) by National Testing Agency (NTA). Admission to MD and MS programmes as post-graduation is through NEET PG- National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate conducted by NBE- National Board of Examinations. These standard tests are admitted in the institute as a way of implementing competitiveness in the selection criteria. KIMS also also provides scholarship and 75% of them reimburse the undergraduate students. Alumni information is not disclosed in detail but it is possible to assure that the institute provides high-quality education that let it bring successful medical professionals to the healthcare industry.
