KVM College of Special Education, Cherthala started in 2001 is a college which provides education exclusively for teachers of special education. KVM College of Special Education provides four full-time courses at diploma and degree levels:
M.Ed Special Education Mental Retardation: A one-year master's program for postgraduate studies available for any deserving advanced knowledge and skills in special education in the area of mental retardation. A relevant bachelor's degree in special education is needed for eligibility.
B.Ed Special Education Mental Retardation: An undergraduate program for one year to prepare graduates as specialists for the teaching of children with mental retardation. Applicants must possess a bachelor degree in a relevant field.
D.Ed Special Education Mental Retardation: A two-year diploma intended to train candidates as teachers to work with mental retardation children. It is for students after their 10+2 education into further specialization.
D.Ed Special Education Autism Spectrum Disorders: The two-year program trains teachers working with children with autism. This course is similar to that of mental retardation and eligible candidates must have completed their 10+2 education.
Each program offers a comprehensive training experience in a particular field of special education, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
