Lajpat Rai Law College at Sambalpur was set up in 1965 and is one of the most reputed law colleges for the state of Odisha in India. This affiliated college which is recognised by Bar Council of India (BCI) provides various programmes in law for the lawyers of the future. The college is compact with a campus area of 5.38 acres; the college has maximum intention capacity of 216 and faculty strength of 3 only. Like any institute that accepts both male and female students, it provides equal opportunities that enable the students from all genders to learn. Through the four degrees the college offers, the establishment covers and offers various legal specialisations.
The Lajpat Rai Law College possesses well-equipped facilities that would be able to support the learning purpose of the students. Library is one of the significant components of the educational process in the sphere of law, it owns around 16,624 books that would let students use lots of resources for their learning. For the students who need to be housed, the college provides accommodation in boys’ as well as girls’ hostels for students from distant regions. The campus has developed accoutrements such as information technology, sport complex especially the gym, and well equipped laboratory for practical lessons. There is an active training and placement cell available for students to help them secure good jobs and internships A mess facility is also available for the students to take meals without going out. To facilitate this the college also contains guest rooms for faculty and family members which just makes the experience all round better and comfier.
The Lajpat Rai Law College envisages four full time courses in total, to attend the different legal education levels. These are the undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes and these provide a list of courses that the students at their different levels may require for the law courses. Based on the approved intake, the college admits 220 students for its various programmes showing its gimmick of providing quality education through regulation of number of students in a classroom.
The process of admitting students in Lajpat Rai Law College is to ensure that the best qualified students are enrolled using the gateway of merit/entrance examination based on the course offer. For the 5-year integrated BBA LLB (Hons) course the following test are conducted as part of the selection: Written entrance test: 70 and career marking: 30 The merit list will be prepared out of 100. The 3 year LLB programme and the Master of Business Administration in Industrial Relationship and Personnel Management have no pre-requisites other than entrance examination and interview and merit is calculated on the basis of aggregate marks of the qualifying examination. For the LLM programme, any candidate who is awaiting result of the qualifying examination can also apply for the entrance test but they should produce the proof of their qualifying test result on the day of the test.
