Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) originated in the year 1985 situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is a male and female college that focuses on physical education and sports sciences and provides undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research opportunities, etc. Being an affiliated college recognized by NCTE or National Council for Teacher Education , LNCPE has earned a reputation for its high standard in providing quality education in sports stream. The college takes only 142 students and has 13 faculty members which in turn affords a better learning atmosphere. LNCPE currently has four programmes of study leading to a degree, derived from physical education and Sports Sciences.

The Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education has many facilities to enhance education in the broad areas of sporting and physical activities. The campus has had specific hostels for boys and girls to ensure that students spend their time comfortably. The refined library has over 8000 books in the physical education and sports and other relevant material including access to 70 National and International journals. In as much as practical activities are concerned, the college has well compounded laboratories for sport science research, and the laboratories are fitted with all modern equipment. Facilities include a modern computer laboratory familiar to students where practice on computer applications is compulsory for the masters’ degree programme. But amongst these choices, one should particularly mention the sports psychology lab that provides amenities for different verbal, non-verbal, and performance tests.

In details, LNCPE provides four full – time courses for students to take in physical education and sports sciences at different levels of education. They include B.P.Ed , M.P.Ed , M.Phil in Physical Education and Ph.D in Physical Education. The B.P.Ed programme which is the basis of physical education course has an approved strength of hundred students. Though other programmes intake is not mentioned quantitatively it can be felt that college is selective enough, as currently total memberships 142 of college.

The admission process conducted at LNCPE is competitive and NOT based on any form of Entrance Exam or Interview. In regards to B.P.Ed and M.P.Ed, admissions to the programme is done at the entrance level and any programme entails written test, physical ability test, and an interview tests. It also takes into account the percentage gauged in qualifying examinations. This result-oriented evaluation is effective as all the shortlisted candidates produce impressive results in the programmes.
