Late Shri Jaidev Satpathi College, Basna, established in 1989, is an affiliated college in Mahasmund district of Chhattisgarh. This is a government teaching institution that is situated in a 15-acre compound where the university offers all types of undergraduate studies. It is accredited with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which makes the college conscious of quality education. The college has 1,093 students and a faculty of five, and hence students get adequate concentration while studying. At present, the institution provides 3 degree programmes in various fields to meet the education demands of the area. 

Late Shri Jaidev Satpathi Government College has had the benefit of several facilities that makes general experience of the students more conducive. The library was set up in August 1989; the facility provides a large number of books and periodicals, with a collection of over 9,059 books, 13 magazines and 5 daily newspapers. It remains open from 10:from 30 AM to 5:30 PM thus affording several hours for the students to undertake research and independent study. 

Another physical facility that the college provides is physical education with facilities for both indoor and outdoor sporting. Indoor-gaming facilities include table tennis, carrom and chess; outdoor games include, kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket, volley ball and athletic. These activities are conducted under a gazetted sports officer who is supposed to ensure that they offer appropriate training and directions. Furthermore, the college has retained departmental laboratories in line with the practical session of students in various courses offered.

Late Shri Jaidev Satpathi Government College offers three programmes. These include the following; Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Bio Group, and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). Each of these programmes takes three years to complete and arm students with substantial knowledge within choice fields. The colleges total intake capacity for students is 1093 proving the colleges, important contribution towards the provision of higher education in the region.
