LMS Law College has its origin in Imphal, Manipur, having the prestige of having been set up in the same year as 1958. As a constituent college situated in Chingmeirong, Dewlahland, it has been moulding legal brains for over sixty years. Affiliated to the Bar Council of India (BCI), LMS Law College provides education in a specialized field of law. The Sprawling campus spread over 2.8 acres covers and offers a unique learning atmosphere. Previously, it had a student population of 298 students and a faculty of 11 members, which keeps the learner interaction ratio very low so that students get direct interaction with their tutors.

The college boasts of the facilities it has put in place to ensure that students within the school of law get the best learning experience as they seek to become professional legislators. It is an essential part of any educational process that provides a wide variety of legal literature, periodicals, and sheet references. LMS Law College, Imphal, offers two comprehensive law programs: these are the LLB and the LLM, Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws respectively. The first LLB program offered at the university takes three years to complete, being a full time course to launching the career of a lawyer. It is offered with numerous legal subjects, which makes student eligible for different positions in the jurisdiction. While the LLM program, is more of a two-year full time course for those students who want to further specialize in their field of law. Both programs are designed to offer foundational information, along with the relevant strategies indicative of the legal industry requirements. Students intake is not expressed in terms of the number of specific courses, however present data reveals that the college enrolls is 298 students in total; largely to ensure the quality of the learning process, achieved with controlled class size.

One cannot but agree that the goals set by LMS Law College, Imphal ,for its selection process are noble indeed – the College aims at choosing the most appropriate candidates for learning law. For the LLB program the college has accepted scores from the Common University Entrance Test also known as CUET UG and is in par with the university standard of the country to get into law colleges. The admission requirements for the LLM is better since they provide for graduates who scored a minimum of 50% cumulative mark in their LLB. The selection for the LLM program involves a three-pronged approach: a written examination (40% weightage), performance of the previous academic years (40% weightage) and a viva- voce to judge the candidate’s suitability for higher studies and research (20% weightage). This greatly enhances the chances of passing through the necessary admission tests and also firmly separates the weak students from formal education.
