Namchi’s Loyola College of Education was founded in 1993, and it is one of the best education centers in Sikkim of India. This college for boys and girls is recognised from National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and is devoted to offering excellent teacher education programmes. Loyola College of Education is a large campus spread over 10 acres and aims at providing the faculty and environment for young educationists. As for the present, the institute boasts of a total of 157 students and is stood up by a capable faculty of 16 members. As part of its teacher education college, the three degree programmes are presented to enhance human capital through total development and to advance education research.
Namchi’s Loyola College of Education offers state of art facilities that the institution has put in place with an aim of making the delivery of training effective. Really the library is the centre of the institution and it is fully computerised and functional from Monday to Saturday for the staff and students to access their resources. As for the miscellaneous supporting facilities, the college has equipped well for sports lovers such as an international basketball court, two volleyball courts, and three outdoor badminton courts etc. It also has indoor game amenities taking into consideration the weather conditions within that region. The technological platform is sound with 40 configuration systems, board or LCD projectors and internet wireless and wired across the college. These include ICT computer laboratory, science laboratories, student cafeteria, and a hall for sporting and other events.
Namchi’s Loyola College of Education has a total of three course full time courses offered at varying levels of education. Some of them are Bachelors in Education (B. Ed ), Masters in Arts in Education (MA Education) and Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D.) . For the B.Ed programme only 100 students are approved for admission, while for the MA Education programme there are only 30 Students who can take admission. The fact is that it is a more specialised programme, and therefore it provides a limited number of places. These programmes are intended for students on different tiers of their education career, beginning with newly admitted students, to those at the post-graduate level.
The process of admission in Loyola College of Education is very much systematic and competitive to choose the deserving candidate for different courses. The admission of students to the B.Ed programme are based on merit list, interview and entrance test. Same is the case of MA Education where admission is being allowed on the basis of merit list, interviews, and or entrance test, or any of them. The Ph.D programme being the most involved program also has merit list, interviews and entrance test. This multiple pronged approach, guarantees that, the college admits students who are both academically endowed, but also have the disposition, and passion for education.
