About Maharana Pratap College of Dentistry and Research, Gwalior

Maharana Pratap College of Dentistry and Research was founded in 2002; it is the most famous dentistry college situated in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This affiliated college is approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI); therefore, the quality of the dental education is substantial. The institute is equipped with many dental courses, with one undergraduate course and another 8 postgraduate courses for different branches of dental skills. The college has 61 members in the faculty and offers a good teaching setup for students who wish to be professional dental surgeons. The institution has been able to display great commitment in ensuring that it possesses the best curriculum and facilities.

The college has made provisions for a number of face lifts of modern facilities that can enhance the student’s academic and personal gains. This unique and vital learning resource centre has the largest collection of national and international journals, magazines, and reference books. Other support infrastructures for the students are an e-library with Internet connection and Wi-Fi through the whole territory of the institution. For practical purposes, the college has adequate sophisticated laboratories for all the departments. As mentioned earlier, MCODR provides the candidates an opportunity to study 9 courses, all of which are full-time. The BDS has an annual capacity of 100 students, while the different streams of MDS have a total capacity of 20 students. These postgraduate programmes include prosthodontics, periodontology, orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, conservative dentistry, and more. The Maharana Pratap College of Dentistry and Research, Gwalior, and it is one of the best dental colleges under the auspices of Jiwaji University, recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The college offers programs for undergraduate (BDS) and postgraduate (MDS) training in various branches of dentistry. Such admissions must be merit-based and uphold a common standard for all courses. MPCDR academic sessions usually run from August to September every year, whereas admissions will begin two months earlier. The qualifying exam for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Applications for NEET for the BDS program usually start in February, with the examination typically held in May and results being declared in June.

For BDS, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with compulsory subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The minimum cut-off for eligibility is 50% marks in total in PCB for students of the general category. In contrast, students of SC/ST/OBC need to secure only 40%. For MDS, a BDS degree recognized by the university and an internship completed before admission are the essential eligibility criteria. Admission of BDS and MDS in the college will be based on NEET scores covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology) for BDS, and further with various subjects of BDS for MDS.  

Application Process

The application process for Maharaja Pratap College of Dentistry and Research, Gwalior, would essentially involve the following steps:

1. NEET Registration: Candidates need to register for NEET (for BDS) or NEET MDS (for postgraduate courses) at the National Testing Agency (NTA) website. The application process is generally from February to March.

2. NEET Examination: The candidate has to appear for either NEET or NEET MDS, which is usually in May.

3. Result Declaration: The results for NEET are usually declared in June.

4. Counseling Registration: After the NEET results, candidates eligible will register for counseling. Counseling will be carried out either at the state level through the Directorate of Medical Education, Madhya Pradesh, or at the national level depending upon the category and place of residence of the candidate.

5. Document Verification: Candidates who are in the merit list shall report for document verification along with all the relevant certificates/documents.

6. Seat Allotment: Seats will be allotted on merit basis as well as the preference given by the candidates.

7. Fee Payment and Confirmation of Admission: After seat allotment, the candidate shall pay the fee and confirm his admission to MPCDR within the specified time.

Degree Wise Admission Process

BDS: Admission to the BDS program is based, by merit-100 candidates per year, on the candidate's NEET score and counseling.

MDS: All admissions to MDS programs of MPCDR shall be based on the NEET MDS score for all eligible candidates holding a BDS degree who have completed their internship prior to the admission schedule.

College Infrastructure

It has proper areas for Gym, sports, Cafeteria, buildings of girls and boys hostels are in a good condition with various facilities. I was a day scholar though. Medical facilities is also there. Auditorium is very big and spacious.

  • NEET MDS qualifying percentile for general category is 50th percentile, while, for SC/ST/OBC, it is 40th percentile.
