Being a medical college affiliated with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College in Kolenchery, was started in 2002 in Kochi of Kerala. This affiliated college is NMC approved and provides the following programs: It is a government aided college that has a total strength of 549 students and 148 members of the faculty making ideal for medical education. The institution provides 10 courses in 4 degree programmes that focus on different branches of medicine. In this capacity, as a co-educational school, it enrols learner’s of both sexes so as to promote equality in the learning environment.
The college has various facilities to make sure that it meets the co-curricular and extra co-curricular needs for the students. These are separate hostels for boys and girls so that out-station students could get comfortable accommodation. A well-equipped library that acts as source of information centre, and also, there is a laboratory where students get practical knowledge. The infrastructure facilities include a health centre with infirmary and sports facilities, computerised with modern IT facilities. The needs of all learners may also be met by a cafeteria, an event or seminar place auditorium, and a gym for exercises. In addition, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College provides guest rooms for visiting professors and student’s families to provide a pleasant atmosphere on campus.
Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College is proud to present a complete range of medical programmes from undergraduate, post graduate to super speciality programmes. The MBBS course has a capacity of admitting 100 students and many other such courses like MD, MS etc have different small capacity intakes. It also provides DM Neonatology as a part of super-specialty courses in the college. All the programmes are day programmes and this helps in that they are intense full programmes which give concentrated medical training. Thus, the total approved intake throughout all the courses makes 549, which shows that the institution is continuously working on delivering the quality medical education.
At Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College admissions are done mainly through national level entrance test. MBBS programme does not have any direct admission, it is administered through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG). MD and MS courses have replaced the previous MCI screening test with the NEET PG examination which considers admission of postgraduates. They make a selection process more credible and full of competition to improve overall performance among contenders. Such examinations are generally annual, and the college follows the admission process formulated by these tests. It is therefore recommended that every interested student check on the respective NEET examinations dates and results as these are the major pillars of admission process.
