Mar Thoma Institute of Information Technology, Ayur: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Mar Thoma Institute of Information Technology (MIIT) was started in 2002 in Ayur, Kollam, Kerala, and it offers courses in Information Technology. This affiliated college is recognised by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE). MIIT provides two master’s degree programmes which in total have 120 vacancies. The institute boasts a faculty strength of 12 members and maintains a diverse student body with a gender ratio of 1:2.16 (male to female). MIIT offers postgraduate courses in Information Technology and Management with full time Masters programmes in MCA and MBA.

The institute have facilities to support the learning exercise for the benefit of its learner. It have computer laboratories complete with Core I3 and Core 2 Duo computers all connected in a network and are both running on dual booting Client Server environment. The students get full-time internet and Wi-Fi facilities and not restricted to working hours. The college comprises four libraries, a central library and three reference libraries namely MBA and MCA Library cum computer centre withmore than 5000 text books, reference books of the latest editions and number of technical journals subscribed through web and library also has a digital library system. In terms of its physical education programme, MIIT offers its students basketball court, cricket ground, shuttle badminton court, volleyball ground and gym.

MIIT offers two full-time postgraduate courses that are Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). Both programmes are approved for intakes of 60 students each, and overall in all the courses offered there are 120 seats available. The MCA programme takes two years, the MBA programme is also a two-year course offering. It has also realised its main aim of assisting students to get specialised skills in their areas of specialisation in order to fit into IT and business markets.

The notable point about MIIT is that admissions are done differently depending to the programme in question. In the case of MCA programme, 50% of the seats are reserved for State Merit Quota which is depending upon the rank of the entrance exam. The remaining 50% is the Management Quota and is also admission to the institute in basis of the government and university norms. The same pattern holds true for the MBA programme also and seat allotment and reservation for the backward classes also follow the university and government norms only. The entrance tests scores are admitted for MBA by MIIT such as the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and the Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT).

For the convenience of its students, MIIT offers the hostel for both the genders. The hostel accommodation for boys is located within a three minute walking distance from the college, there is a newly constructed multi storey hostel for girls’ inside the college campus. These two hostels are surrounded by resident teachers and wardens who make sure that the atmosphere is auspicious and safe for study. MIIT also provides its connection to the alumni community through the organisation of MIIT Alumni Association since 2005.
