Mewar College of Teacher’s Training, Gangrar, started in the year 2008 and situated at Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, is an affiliated college. This institution has been recognised under the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and is dedicated solely to the teacher education programmes. Set on 30 acres of land, the college is still experiencing growth, and at the time of writing this report, there are 187 students enrolled in the college and 16 faculty members. Mewar College offers two full-time degree programmes: Junior Masters and Diploma courses in Education (B.Ed.) and Diploma Course in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed) for budding teachers at different stages.
This college has various facilities meant to support the teaching and learning process of the college’s students. A library in the school has 3100 books and 676 reference books, six encyclopaedias and eight educational journals, with a capacity of about 50 students in the reading room. It has several science laboratories for physics, biology, and chemistry; besides, it has specific laboratory facilities for educational, computer, psychological and audio visual technology. These facilities create unique learning opportunities that are useful for future teachers‘ practice. There are also separate hostels for the male and female students, with three to a room including private bath.
The Mewar College of Teacher’s Training has a total number of two programmes in its educational curriculum and both are on a full-time basis. According to the guidelines, B.Ed. programme has an intake capacity of 100 seats and D.El.Ed. programme has 50 seats in total The college takes one hundred and fifty students. These programmes are intended for students to pursue teaching profession at different levels of education. Consistent with training teachers, programmes and services in the college are providing for the needs of training teachers.
The requirements for enrolment in Mewar College of Teacher’s Training differ from one programme to another. For B.Ed programme, it offers its own Pre-Teacher Education Test (PTET) conducted by the Government of Rajasthan along with counselling session. The admissions to the D.El.Ed. programme are based on merit in marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or entrance test or any other criteria laid down by the State Government of West Bengal from time to time. Unfortunately, actual dates for the exams are not given but the basic calendar for the PTET examination and the timeline of the admission process of the college should be considered.
To the centres’ support student’s life and learning, the college offers several features: These include event and seminar auditorium, cafeteria for its staff and the students, as well as a health centre with provisions for first aid. The institution also avails free internet in its computer laboratory, which is equipped with 30 computers, printers and headphones. For the students’ total health needs, there is a gymnasium and other sporting facilities. The college also offers transportation facility for day scholars; there is bus facility available to transport the students either from Bhilwara and Chittorgarh or Putholi, Chanderiya, and Kapasan.
