Morning Star College was established in the year 1971 at Barrackpore, as an affiliated college under the University of Calcutta. The college is located on a campus area covering 25 acres in Kolkata, West Bengal. The college offers focused programs regarding philosophy and theology and maintains an address at Barrackpore - Barasat Road, Sewli, Telenipara, Kolkata, West Bengal - 700121. 

The college has quite several facilities to support students at large in making campus life enriching. There are sports facilities available for all students, thus catering well to the interest of the sports enthusiast. Morning Star College runs three full-time courses within two-degree programs. The courses BA Philosophy, BA Theology, and Diploma in Theology give students an in-depth knowledge of philosophical and theological ideas to prepare them for careers either in academia or in religious institutions and related jobs.
The college conducts an entrance test every year in January for the BA Philosophy program. A student, aspiring to join for the Philosophy program in the college, has to qualify in the entrance test. Only those who qualify in the test can seek admission for the Philosophy program in the college.
