As one of the pioneer women’s college in the region, M.V.Muthiah Government Arts College for Women was started in 1966 in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college offers numerous and diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in different faculties and has been accredited by the NAAC. Located in a large surface area of 40 acres, the college caters to a total of students 3,226 where 86% of students are undergraduate and 14% are postgraduate students. The institution has a clear focus with regard to women’s education as all the students are female. There are 62 faculties, and the college offers 45 courses and ten degrees in Arts, Sciences, and Commerce.
M.V.Muthiah Government Arts College for Women also has all the relevant amenities that are needed to make the education of the learners easier. This total comprises of 31 full time undergraduate programmes, 13 full time postgraduate programmes, and 1 postgraduate diploma programme. The college’s total approved students intake is three thousand four hundred for all the courses offered in the college. The courses offered are B.Com, BBA, BA in English, English Shift II, Economics, History, B.Sc in Mathematics, Physics, and so on.
The approval of students into MV Muthiah Government Arts College for Women is done in accordance with fine performance in their studies. For the undergraduate programmes, the college generates cut-off list of students for admission on the basis of their marks, obtained from the qualifying examination. The candidates who are successful to the next stage are then interviewed through counseling sessions in order to arrive at final decisions. The admission at postgraduate level is on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in the under graduation examination and/or departmental test. The college adheres to the admission policy of the Tamil Nadu state government for the post graduate courses. At the postgraduate level, the M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes, the UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, and GATE qualified candidates are not required to write the entrance test.
