Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College, located in Ernakulam District of Kerala, India, was started in 2001 and is one of the places delivering traditional Ayurveda knowledge. Located in Kothamangalam, this self financed affiliated college occupies 18 acres of land to provide the environment to learn the great science of Ayurveda. Affiliated with the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), the institute aims at charting a path in terms of education standards in Ayurvedic medicinal fields. The college has 300 students and 34 faculty members that allow the college to monitor the student-teacher ratio to improve the students’ learning.
Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College has installed numerous functional facilities that support its teaching and learning environment. The central library of BAMS has more than 5800 books which comprises both rare and out of print books and off course knowledge of Ayurveda. For a rayrange of specialised books, there are departmental libraries to which students can gain access apart from the larger reading rooms which can hold up to 70 students at a time. The college also values practical learning with fully equipped laboratories for use by each department. Facilities such as LCD projectors, overhead projectors and other tools like Television aids, are available in each classroom to make learning enjoyable. The female students are provided with a hostel and have facilities for a court for badminton facility and provisions for indoor games.
At present, Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College only has one main programme available, that is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). The approved annual student intake for this comprehensive six-year full-time course is 60 students. The BAMS programme is therefore aimed at helping the students gain considerable understanding and knowledge in Ayurvedic system of medicine in order to improve their competency in the growing area of practice in the field of complementary and alternative medicine.
