The Narasaraopeta Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (shortly known as NIPS) began in the year 2007. It is an important pharmaceutical education center situated in Narasaraopet, Andhra Pradesh. NIPS is put up on a campus of 3.2 acres. Within a short span, it has emerged as a respect-worthy name in pharmaceutical education. The institute is NAAC recognized and has received approval from the Pharmacy Council of India subsidiary, which is also a guarantee of high standards in education. Pharmaceutical programs are offered at the affiliated college of NIPS in diverse forms, with 3 degrees across 5 courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The institute has a total enrollment of 554 students and a faculty strength of 48, thus maintaining a very excellent student-teacher ratio, conducive to learning.
At the institute, there is a state-of-the-art array of facilities geared at giving its students a world-class educational experience. The spacious library houses more than 4,000 books and 400 titles, including 46 national and international journals, magazines, and an internet facility for pursuing and conducting research.
NIPS has well-equipped laboratories with modern instruments to impart practical training, which forms an integral part of the education of a pharmacist. NIPS ensures physical development of a student by providing a sports facility in a well-maintained playground, along with a gym to keep the body physically fit. There are separate hostels for boys and girls within the campus, offering a home-like comfort to students coming from outside the city. The canteen within the campus serves the needs of culinary delights for the staff and students. Overall development is promised by the institute, and the same shows in the auditorium hosting presentations and seminars to show its vibrant college life.
It offers a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical courses to the diverse needs of aspiring pharmacists. The institute offers 5 full-time courses—2 at the undergraduate level and 3 at the postgraduate level. At the undergraduate level, NIPS offers the flagship B.Pharma program with an approved intake of 100 seats. The offerings at the postgraduate level include M.Pharma programs in Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance, and Pharmaceutics. It also has a Pharm.D program to provide advanced pharmaceutical education. Though it does not specifically mention any number for postgraduate course seats, the total number of students enrolled in the course is 554, which reflects a good academic environment.
Admissions at NIPS are made strictly on the common entrance test. The entrance scores accepted for the B.Pharma course are from the Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (AP EAMCET). For postgraduate programs, entrance applications are received through the Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (AP PGECET). These entrance examinations help in the admission of only those students who actually meet the eligibility criteria. NIPS endeavours to provide all deserving students with quality education. In the 2022 academic year, 258 undergraduate students and 58 doctoral students received financial reimbursements, which simply indicates the concerns of the institute towards the financial elements regarding their students. Undergraduate students are 47% male and 53% female, thus manifesting the institute's commitment to gender parity in access to education. With 99% of its students coming from within the state, NIPS plays a vital role in the nourishing of the local talent to add value to the Andhra Pradesh Pharmaceuticals sector.
