The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Imphal was established in the year 1987 at Imphal, Manipur and it is an autonomous institute with massive facilities. The NIELIT Imphal is spread over 20 acres, approved by AICTE and offers a plethora of programs in Electronics and Information Technology. An astonishing student enrolment capacity is 724 and faculty of mere 16 which ensures a concentrated learning. NIELIT Imphal conducts 6 programmes under 5 individual study programmes in stream of Computer Science, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology.
Some of the facilities available at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Imphal to help constitute its academic contents and improve students’ experience are as follows; The institute has well-equipped laboratories; an extra facility is the PCB design and fabrication laboratory with CAD design software and a CNC-milling device for prototypes of PCB. This multimedia laboratory includes modern workstation class computers with the opportune software for graphic and animating. It has a magnificent reading room and it contains more than 13,830 volumes of books on electronics, computers and allied branches. KOHA library software has automated the process and members have the access to DELNET for numerous technical journals.
NIELIT Imphal offers basic, graduate, postgraduate courses and diploma courses in electronics and IT fields. There are currently 7 full course offerings in the institute, which are diploma courses, undergraduate, postgraduate diplomas and masters. The overall sanctioned strength for all courses are 390 and out of these 160 seats are available for BCA. It provides both technical and professional programs so that its students undergo balanced learning.
Regarding this, admission policies of the NIELIT Imphal differ from course to course. For diploma programs like DCSE and DECE, that select some of the students the criteria used is a written assessment test containing objective type questions in Mathematics and Science at Class X standard. The BCA program admission process aims are provided based on a test that comprises Class XII standard Mathematics, English, and General Aptitude. For PGDCA, MCA and M.Sc IT a 2 hour admission test is taken which comprises graduate level general ability test and Mathematics. Some of the programmes in the institute are offered to selected students with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) scores. The entire admission process of NIELIT Imphal was developed to choose the best students aspiring for different diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs.
Normally, the admission process occurs for the academic year that starts in August-September, while the application process begins a few months earlier. Admission candidates for various programs are tested by NIELIT Imphal through a mix of entrance exams of which some are specific to the institute and others are national level examinations like CUET PG.
Most of these courses have as basic eligibility the completion of the qualifying examination (10th, 12th, or graduation) in the relevant stream with the minimum required marks. However, different programs of study have their specific eligibility criteria.
Application Process

Degree Wise Admission Process
BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): Most important, for admission to the BCA program, there is an entrance test, which includes Mathematics, English, and General Aptitude, at the 12th standard level. The NIELIT Imphal has a total intake of 200 students for this program.
Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE): As for selection, the DCSE is mainly through a written test consisting of objective-type questions on 10th standard Mathematics and Science. The institute has an intake capacity of 60 students in this course.
Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering (DECE): As for selection, the DECE is based on a written test having 10th standard Mathematics and Science. The institute has an intake capacity of 60 students in this course.
MCA (Master of Computer Applications): NIELIT Imphal selects the applicants for MCA based on their score either in an institute-level entrance test or in the examination of the Common University Entrance Test-PG (CUET PG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The institute's entrance test covers 12th Mathematics and general aptitude at the graduate level. The intake for this course is 60 students.
PGDCA: The PGDCA admission is through a 2-hour entrance test, which is aimed at assessing graduate-level general aptitude. The institute has an intake of 51 students for this program.
M.Sc Information Technology: Candidates for M.Sc IT are selected based on a 2-hour admission test, which covers Graduate-level general aptitude and 12th standard Maths. NIELIT Imphal has an intake of 40 students for this course.
M.Tech Artificial Intelligence: Specifics about the admission procedure for M.Tech AI have not been given, but most likely similar will be followed through entrance examination or national-level test scores. The program has an intake of 30 students.
