NIELIT Kohima: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Kohima (NIELIT Kohima) is one of the renowned institutes working from 2004. Located in Meriema, Kohima, Nagaland this affiliated college holds the motto to deliver quality education in electronics and information technology. Located in a large complex of 15 acres, NIELIT Kohima delivers two courses related to computer science and engineering. The institute enjoys the faculty strength of 7 members which makes it easier for the Institute to provide attention to each of the students. For its part, NIELIT Kohima has a significant role to undertake technical education and serve as the key to the IT professional development of the area.

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Kohima facilities make the study of the students full-fledged, which are listed below. Available with auxiliaries, the institute has available separate hostel facilities for boys and girls students which accommodate one hundred boys and sixty girl students given a priority to the students of other district and state only. The college has a library stocked with more than five thousand five hundred volumes of books from COM puter science electronics and related fields and it uses a computerized cataloguing system for its volumes. General computer facilities include seven general computer laboratories and one multimedia laboratory boasting licensed software and advanced PCs. Transport facilities, sports facilities, well equipped laboratories, canteen, 200 seat auditorium are additional facilities that benefits students. It is in such facilities that a conducive environment for both academic and personal development is provided.

The institute currently offers 3 full-time courses: There are a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering moreover. BCA programme has been approved to admit up to 30 students per year, on the Intake of the Diploma programme has not been stated. These two classes are also presented to help the students to gain better direction on their desired course in computer science and also to create ample platform and exposure to the dynamic IT industry. These programmes take three years to complete which affords coverage of all the issues and course content needed to prepare the students for professional jobs in the information technology sector.

Admission at NIELIT Kohima is competitive with the aim of enrolling the most capable students to the institutes offering courses. For BCA and Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering admissions, the institute has prepared a written test exclusively for students. One of the reasons for such practice is to determine the candidates’ ability and suitability to undertake the demanding academic courses prepared for them. This entrance test may however be exempted if the number of apllicants is small or less than the number of available openings.
