Navjivini Institute of Special Education and Research is situated in Patiala Punjab which particularly focuses on the field of teachers training for special education. This co-educational institute was founded in 2007 and is proud to educate people and become a known institution for more than ten years. The institute has instituted two fulltime professional courses special education for intellectual disability- each with a total seat enrolment of fifty-eight. Currently, the faculty has only eight members, thus making the institute capable of providing high quality education while maintaining a proper student faculty ratio.

It has spacious and well-equipped lecture theaters, sophisticated laboratories, state of art computer systems, a well stocked library, cafeteria and other related services. Besides that, the library as an essential part of each institution plays the role of the information center containing a wide range of intellectual resources. In the field of sports and games all the students are provided with the facility of sports complexes. 

Navjivini Institute of Special Education and Research currently has two programs in the area of Inclusive Education – Special Education for Intellectual Disabilities. Some of them include Bachelor of Education Special Education Intellectual Disability (B.Ed) Special Education Intellectual Disability and Diploma in Special Education Intellectual Disability (D.Ed). The two programs are full courses, hence they take two years to complete each program.

Admission policy at Navjivini Institute of Special Education and Research is strictly followed in such a way as to identify students who are really interested in teaching for the special needs students. The admission for the B.Ed Special Education Intellectual Disability is on the basis of counseling.
