Nehru College of Education, Puducherry: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The Nehru College of Education, Puducherry, was founded in 2005 at Villianur, Puducherry and is a popular Teacher Training College. This co-educational institute enjoys the status of being affiliated with Pondicherry University and prepares future educators. Recognted by NCTE and is functioning in a consolidated 1.5 area it has been approved by government of Delhi. For instance, Nehru College of Education caters for a student population of two hundred and ninety five and faculty of sixteen which translate into a consolidated and personal learners-teacher ratio. The institute offers, at the moment, only one programme, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), which is in consonance with its mission to offer premier teacher education.

The college maintains various amenities meant to complement learning activities in the college for students. Severely established, the library has a sitting capacity of 50 and contains 5,176 books on different subjects allied to education, educational studies, and educational research. It also currently pays for fifteen journal and four magazines in the field of education so that the students could have an access to the up to date knowledge. The school has functional departmental laboratories that enable the students to have a touch feel on what they learn in classes. 

To meet up with current challenges in education, the college has been abreast with best it facilities. In an attempt to ensure that the students become all rounded, sporting facilities are provided to the students. The college also has an auditorium particularly for events and seminars to ensure that the college is alive academically. The NE campus has registered the hostel for both the male and female student’s facilities, creating commensurate standard housing for students who travel from long distances.

As far as the curriculum is concerned Nehru College of Education offers only one course; the B.Ed which is a two year full time program. The program has the working capacity for the intake of one hundred students, which shows that the program can train many potential educator workforce. This specialization gives the institution abilities to coordinate resources and efforts in providing quality teacher education.

Their admission process like all other Indian college is based on merits following the policy of State Government, Union Territory Administration and the university that is affiliated to the college. The course fees vary depending on the marks scored in the qualifying test and/or the entrance test, if any. The college may also use other methods of recruitment as recommended by the existing policies. This, coupled with other methods of recruitment such as internal posting, guarantees that the best and more especially, those passionate about teaching GET the opportunity to teach.
