PGP College of Education – Namakkal was born in 2005 and is a leading institute imparting teacher education in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This co-educational college is situated at Namakkal – Karur Main Road, NH-7 and offers the specialising facilities in education. This institute has paid a lot of attention to maintaining the quality and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Recognised by NCTE, PGP College of Education works as an affiliated college that maintains compliance with the set educational standards. A total of 161 students are offered each year for its two degree programmes, thus offers a centred appointment for students who want to become educators.
PGP College of Education has some features that can be described as modern facilities in the educational process of the college. The hostels are gender – segregated, and have an intake capacity of 1000 for boys and 600 for girls respectively. These hostels include portable Wi-Fi, adequate canteens, common rooms and computerised laboratories in order to give a comfortable accommodation. The central library for the college operating from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening on working days has bound volumes of textbooks and reference books relevant to the curricular and extracurricular activities besides serving the purpose of student’s research and study. At present PGP College of Education is offering two full time courses in the field of education. The B.Ed programme has been approved for FY 100 and for M.Ed it is FY 50. They both take two years to complete and prepare the student on educational theory and practice. College’s emphasis on these two fundamental programmes makes it possible to accord more attention to preparation of teachers for profitable jobs in the profession. Thus, the institute got 161 enrolments which are healthy for the standards of student-to-programme ratio and facilitate highly individualised and qualitative educational service.
The admission to PGP College of Education is done based on merit, and as per the norms set by the state government, the university and UT. The B.Ed programme admission is therefore based on the score obtained in the qualifying examination as well as an entrance examination.
