Ponmana Semmal Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Government Arts and Science College, Puthur, was established in the year 2017 and it is a newly building college. As a government college for boys and girls, it is located in Sirkali in the Tamil Nadu state offering various courses in Arts, Science and Commerce. Located in a 10.52 acres of land, the college has a total student strength of 1,135 and a faculty of 19 members. It provides 8 courses under 6 degree programmes and it mainly aims at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The general population is 92% under graduate students and 8% post graduate students. Of the total number of students, 70% are females doing undergraduate courses and 87% females for postgraduate courses.

These include 6 undergraduate courses and 2 postgraduate courses to suite any academic needs any as they may be. The college has a total student intake of 727 and as such has a noble responsibility of educating a number of students. The courses are BA in Tamil, Englsih, B.Com, B.Sc in Computer Science, Mathematics, and so on. 

The college accepts all students through merit. As the college is a government college in Tamil Nadu, standard practice is that the performance in the relevant qualifying examinations will be considered. The college functions according to the academic calendar of the university to which it is affiliated, usually admissions begin after the announcement of 12 standard results.
