PSG College of Education, Sankari – The College was started in 2006 as a teacher training institution situated in Salem District of Tamil Nadu. This co-educational institute was established and is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University and is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Situated on a sprawling 3-acre campus, the college offers two full-time courses: B.Ed and D.El.Ed, with a total number of intake capacity of 150. PSG College of Education has sixteen dedicated faculty members which teach education to 134 enrolled students to maintain a good student to faculty ratio.
PSG College of Education have well equipped and well developed faculty considering the fact that they only exist with aim of improving the learning and development of students. The library is a base of academic materials; the collection comprises more than 3700 selected books and essential journals that offer an extensive collection of knowledge to future educators. For physical fitness and recreation, the college has a fine gym and playground to play indoor as well as outdoor games, basket ball, volley ball etc. It also has modern infrastructures of Information Technology equipment to enable the student learn more technology changes in learning. Accommodation is also provided for outstation students; boys and girls are accommodated in different hostels. Others infrastructural facilities include a canteen, an auditorium for functions and seminars, and health centre with amenities for first aid treatment. Also, the college provides transportation services for students and workers for their comfort.
This paper is an analysis of PSG College of Education at Sankari which offers two major courses in Teacher Education. The B.Ed. course is a two-year full-time programme, and according to the approval, it can take 100 students. The two-year full-time Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course is also available for 50 students.
