Pushkaram College of Agricultural Sciences, Pudukkottai (PCAS) is an emerging college, set up in 2016. This is affiliated college situated at Veppangudi Village, Thiruvarankulam, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu and this college is purely for agricultural stream. The PCAS occupies a study area of 110.69 hectares, and the serene environment provides students and researchers a conducive area for learning in agriculture. As of now, the college is has only a total student enrollment capacity of two hundred and fifty with 42 members in the faculty which makes for the best student teacher ratio for a learning institution. PCAS currently has only one degree programme, these is the B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons) programme which is a full time four years programme in line with the college’s focused mandate of producing graduates in agriculture.
As has been earlier pointed out, the college is endowed with all the neccessary facilities in order to effectively undertake its educational mandate. Pushkaram College of Agricultural Sciences has eight large smart lecture halls with reasonable standards of natural ventilation and lighting as well as other sophisticated teaching aids. They carry all required modern instruments and apparatus in order to facilitate the students to have practical knowledge in agricultural sciences. This has been supported by the college’s Information Technology facilities that include a computer laboratory containing sixty high end computers attached to a 64MBPS internet connection. The entire campus is connectivity enabled through Wi-Fi to support use of digital resources. To support research and the studies for the faculty and students PCAS has library stocked with more than 3000 books of agriculture, including subscriptions to important scientific journals and magazines.
Pushkaram College of Agricultural Sciences has only one programme which is B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons). This is a four-years full-time programme with the goals of preparing students who have interest in the agricultural sciences field with disciplines knowledge and field practical experience. It is not clear how many of these seats are available, but the college admits a total of 250 students in its colleges, so there would certainly be room for this programme. Since its formation, the course incorporates segments on crop science, soil science, agricultural economics, and many other areas, giving knowledge to practice in the agricultural industry.
Unfortunately, the officially provided materials do not contain information about the procedure of admission to PCAS. However, being an affiliated college, it is expected that admissions to B.Sc Agriculture (Hons) may have purely merit based on academic performance in the 10+2 level in relevant subjects possibly an entrance test may be conducted. Information on specific scholarship information is, however, not given while the college has a Training and Placement Cell under which recruitment is conducted for graduating students and companies are sought to be sought where fresh graduates in agriculture are required.
