24 Monthshe two-year M.Sc. Psychology programme, affiliated to the MG University, is divided into four semesters of which the last two semesters are devoted primarily to clinical psychology The weekly schedule for a psychology trainee in the first three semesters consists of four days in-campus lecture programs (six hours per day) and two days concurrent clinical fieldwork in the hospitals that the department has tie ups with. The final semester also includes a one month or 200 hours consolidated block placement, in accordance with the specialization i.e. Clinical Psychology, and the submission of a report on his activities in the institution/setting (clinical setting/ organization/ school setting/community/sport institution/forensic setting).
The program also involves conducting a research study presented as a dissertation in the 4th semester based on a topic of his or her own choice and under the supervision of a teacher. Students are expected to publish their research in scientific psychology journals.
The program incorporates experiential learning through psychology experiments in the postgraduate neuro diagnostic lab that has over 60 diagnostic tests,, through 2 block internships, class seminar presentations, dissertation writing experience, and most importantly case presentations and participation in the community clinics run by the department to serve the community around.
Through all these activities, the M.Sc.program aims to build the following 4 outcomes in the students.
Graduation in Psychology/Rehabilitation Science with not less than 50% marks in the Part III subjects (Main/Core+ + subsidiaries/Complementaries).
Candidates should have passed the corresponding Degree Examination under the 10 + 2 + 3 pattern with one core/main subject and two complementary/subsidiary subjects from any of the Universities in Kerala or of any other University recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University as equivalent thereto for admission, subject to the stipulation regarding marks.
Candidates who have passed Degree examination with Double or Triple main subject +or candidates who have passed the Degree Examination in Vocational or Specialized Programmes are also eligible for admission. However, they have to submit a copy of the Equivalency/Eligibility Certificate from Mahatma Gandhi University, stating that, their Qualifying Examination is recognized for seeking admission to the relevant P.G. Degree Course(s) as applicable, at the time of admission. This provision is not applicable in the case of those applicants who have passed their qualifying examination from MG University.
In the case of those subjects for which applicants who have taken the subjects as optional at Under Graduate level and are declared qualified to seek admission.
The admission to MSc Psychology is based on Personal Interview and Entrance Exam conducted by the college. Government norms of admission requirements are followed in the case of SC/ST and other reserved categories.
