Sakthi Mariamman Engineering College [SMEC] was established in 2001 and one of the leading colleges of Tamil Nadu located in Chennai. It is a co-educational institution connected with Anna University that has various the engineering for the students’ demands. Located at Narayanasamy Nagar, Thandalam, SMEC occupies a 10.89 acre land that offers the conducive environment to foster academic success and individual development to boot. At present, the college has 117 committed educators in its ranks to maintain the educational quality of the departments and programmes offered. The gem of the institution is the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Library with over 19200 volumes and 5780 titles inclusive of engineering, technology, computer application and business administration. The library is also air conditioned, and includes a browsing centre with 50 terminals so that students and staff can easily browse on the net. This is from the structure developed by SMEC as a sports facility, gymnasium, and an auditorium, which are aspects of co-curricular activities in students. For practical learning and research the college also has well equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science laboratory.

SMEC currently has seven degrees full-time undergraduate engineering programmes in total which award the “Bachelor of Engineering” (BE), except for the Information Technology degree which awards a “Bachelor of Technology” (B.Tech). They offer several courses of the following specialisations: Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology. All of the programmes are tailored to give learners appropriate knowledge for their area of interest as they prepare themselves for careers in the ever technologically dynamic world.

The admission process at Sakthi Mariamman Engineering College are quite reasonable, or in other words, logical and reasonable all over. The actual process of admission is not detailed but, as is the case for most engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu, this institution also offers admission based on the entrance examination results relevant to the field an applicant wants to major in. SMEC probably recognises scores produced by the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) which involves Counselling and is a result of students’ performance in the qualifying examination 10+2 or its equivalent. SMEC has provided best hostel facilities for boys and girls so that the students from different parts of the country can live without any inconvenience. Transport also forms part of the facilities provided by the college; buses are provided from different ares of the city for easy transportation of the day scholars. There is a large dietary that can feed 500 students and is appropriate for students to have diverse meals at the same time.
