Sanjay Memorial Polytechnic was started in the year 1980; it is one of the well-known technical institutions at Shivamogga of Karnataka state. This affiliated college approved by AICTE has been training technical talents for the last forty years. Located on a large estate of 20 acres of land, the polytechnic provides a favorable learning atmosphere. The total student enrollment for the educational year 2007-08 being 628 and the faculty strength of 38, the institute has a healthy student / faculty ratio, which is actually essential to pay individual attention to the students and provide for good quality education to them.

The polytechnic has some superb and interesting facilities in an endeavor to improve on the learning achievements of the assaulting students. The rich and fully stocked library resource centre doubles as a technical information dissemination centre containing many technical publications and other resources. There are modernised laboratories for each department with practical exercises provided for each field. Once again, the institute shows great technical interest through a very comprehensive IT facility. That is why for the convenience of the student, the hostel accommodations are provided separately for boys and girls. It also encompasses a canteen, sports courts and facility, and a hall for students’ activities or occasions such as drama, music and other displays. The alumni association is active, and it a great tool through which past and present students can easily interact.

Sanjay Memorial Polytechnic provides comprehensive diploma programmes where all are full time programmes. Currently the institute offers five diploma programmes, which take three years to complete their curriculum. The courses are Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Civil. These programmes cover that many engineering specialisations and offer the given specialties due to the present demand. We have a total approved intake of three hundred across all courses, therefore making it easy for anybody who wants to be an engineer to get a chance through these courses. For each programme, PGP has an intake capacity of 60 students to distribute the student intake equally to various specialisations.

Sanjay Memorial Polytechnic follows the concept of fair and merit based admission procedures. The seats in all diploma programmes shall be filled according to merit within the respective quota of reservation for all qualified candidates. This approach is in line with the institutes’ ideals of diversity and inclusion as practice in technical learning.
