Sankar Polytechnic College started with its establishment in the year 1958 is one of the pioneer technical institutions located in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. This autonomous college approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has been producing technical talent for more than six decades. Located in a 120 acre compound, the college provides an ideal environment in which students may learn and develop. Sankar Polytechnic College has total intake of students one thousand ninety eight and total faculty members of thirteen, which indicates that this college is very much student friendly. It also has well equipped laboratories for practical’s, an auditorium for various functions and seminars and a health centre for first aid. The college also helps the female students by offering a free transport from Sankar nagar main road up to the college.

In terms of their diploma programmes, The Sankar Polytechnic College allows students the choice of many engineering fields. They offer 8 full time courses consisted of 7 diploma courses and 1 post-diploma course. The courses are Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Civil, Computer, Post Diploma in Computer, Diploma in Electrical and Electronics, and Diploma in Mechanical. For all the courses, the total approved intake is 490 students in order to ensure that the college remains accordant to the student teachers ratio.
