The college only offers one course, the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), which is a full-time course of six years.
Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College (SAMC) is the list of facilities that have been developed to improve the learning atmosphere and general health of students. Males and females each have their hostels, which can accommodate about 300 students in all. The campus includes a good library with a capacity of over 10,000 volumes of text books from different fields, but primarily on Ayurveda and Indian systems of medical sciences. All 14 teaching departments have their own libraries, where books on the Siddha system of medicine are available in large numbers. As for the intended learning, the college offers department-related laboratories to allow the students to practice. SAMC also emphasises student health needs courtesy of the health centre with first aid in the compound.
Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College has a distinguishing feature in presenting the BAMS programme that forms the basis of its curricula. This full-course course has an authorised admission capacity of holding fifty students per year, which clearly shows the college’s aim at the policy of optimal relation of students to teachers. The course will help students gain a professional-level understanding of Ayurveda and entitle them to work as successful practitioners of this form of medicine.
The promotion of the BAMS programme in SAMC is conducted mainly on the basis of scores attained in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). For government quota seats, the Neet scorecard is evaluated by the commissioner of examinations for entrance to Kerala (CEE) based on the inter-se merit prepared by CBSE. Admission for management/NRI quota is based on the rank obtained in NEET as well as submission of necessary NRI quota-related documents within the time frame. This strict admission criterion guarantees the college takes in students with the basic knowledge and ability required to learn Ayurveda.
The variety of the facilities reflects SAMC’s focus on the holistic approach to development comprehensively. To support the extracurricular activities, there are sporting amenities, a gym, and an auditorium in the compound of the college. For facilitating students who live in hostels or other private accommodations, transport facilities are provided. The college also has IT facilities to meet various modern-day educational requirements. A canteen and an eatery are provided for the consumption needs of students and the staff. For the visitors’ convenience, including faculty members, students, or their family members, accommodation in guest houses with college facilities is offered.
