School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, was established in the year 1972. It is in Hamdard Nagar Delhi and it has become a reputed institute and a centre of excellence in pharmaceutical education. The school provides 15 courses at four levels of degrees in pharmacy and professional interest areas. The management, with a faculty strength of 43 members, achieves its commitment to providing quality and comprehensive education and researching to the students. This fact implies the school approval by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The institute proudly has a list of up-to-date infrastructures to improve the learning of students. The college has a library that is opened throughout the week for twenty hours In addition, the library contains books pharmacy and civil services magazines and other resources. The students also use the central university library that is offered to them by the particular institution. However, the IT facilities of the school are good, for which students have all the necessary tools to conduct research and studies. Required laboratories define different departments to enjoy practical sessions in pharmaceutical studies. To the students, who need a place to stay the management of this institute, has arranged hostels for both male and female students with basic facilities like beds and found with mess facilities to feed their occupants.
The 15 courses offered by the school are Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma), and different specialisations in Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharma) namely, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmacy Practice. The institute also offers doctoral programmes in various disciplines of pharmacy. The course of B.Pharma has the highest number of seats, having 120 students, along with 60 seats for D.Pharma course. Generally the M.Pharma programmes are offered for 8-15 seats in each programme according to the specialisations. All programmes are daytime only to facilitate rigorous education in pharmacy.
The procedure for admission to the School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research is different for different programmes. The admissions to M.Pharma programmes depend normally on the performance in the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT). If available GPAT qualified candidates are less, admission will be provided according to the percentage scored in B.Pharm. Admissions for the candidates belonging to the NRI/sponsored category will be effected on B.Pharm percent. The institute accepts GPAT for its postgraduate courses and GPAT is one of the national level entrance examination for Pharmacy students. Prominent alumni have completed their education from the school thus showing the quality of education being provided by the school in India and other countries.
