School of Studies in Engineering and Technology, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The School of Studies in Engineering and Technology is a constituent of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, situated at Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Originally founded as a central university, it has come a long way in becoming one of the choice places for engineering education in the region. The campus itself, which is situated on 655 acres, is most suitable for the learning process. Its courses, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, cover almost all branches of engineering for both graduations and postgraduates. 

The institute is manned by 97 members of faculty, which guarantees a small student-teacher ratio. It is at the moment offering 15 courses across 2 degree levels for different facets of engineering. The students are enrolled as the following 1,639 students, with a gender distribution of 82% males and 18% females. Surprisingly, the institute enrols a greater number of out-of-stat students, and only 24% of the students belong to Chhattisgarh, showing that it is slowly and gradually coming into recognition beyond the state frontier. 

The School of Studies in Engineering and Technology is indeed blessed with instructional facilities that meet the technological demands of today’s world. The central library, which was set up in the year 1984, currently possesses more than one and a half lakh books and many important electronic resources so that students as well as faculty members can become effective knowledge seekers. The infrastructure is strong and includes a computer centre with expressed internet connection through NKN. These applications contain all the digital basic needs of the university and can serve multiple academic and administrative processes. 

The institute provides a number of engineering streams. Some of the most sought-after courses at the institute are B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Information Technology. The intake capacity in each of these programs is 60 students. At postgraduate level courses, Masters of Technology in different specialisations are offered separately with a total intake of 18 students each. While the programs offered that lead to the award of the B.Tech are regular four-year full-time programmes.

Admission to the B.Tech programmes is brought through counselling through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Admission through the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) score is the basic criterion. Being a national-level entrance examination, the institute can be rest assured that it admits some of the most competent engineering students all over the country. Education is not limited to the academic moulding of the students; the institute also assists them in many other ways. There are hostels for male and female students who want to live on campus, but no coed dorms. Health care for students and staff is provided by the health centre, which has adequate in-and-outpatient services and 24-hour ambulance services, inclusive. 

Leisure and sports facilities are available, such as volleyball courts, basketball courts, and lawn tennis courts; a sporting complex. There is also provision of subsidies for the financially challenged students. For the academic year 2022, 210 undergraduate & 13 postgraduate students were reimbursed, showing the institute’s intent to make quality education affordable.
