The Shankarrao Mohite Mahavidyalaya, Akluj was established in 1967. The college offers various courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. SMM Akluj UG courses include B.Sc, BA and B.Com, whereas PG courses include M.A., M.Sc. The Institute also offers doctoral degrees under different specialisations. SMM Akluj  is a private university affiliated to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur.

For SMM Akluj UG admissions candidates must have passed class 12th from a recognised board. SMM Akluj PG courses include M.Sc Electronics, M.Sc Agrochemicals and Pest Management, MA Hindi, MA History and MA English. SMM Akluj PG admissions are offered to candidates who must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised board.

The college is located in Malewadi-Akluj, Maharashtra, India. The nearest Railway station is Barshi Railway Station, which is approximately 35 kilometres away from the campus. Akluj does not have its own airport. So the nearest airport is Solapur Airport, situated around 120 kilometres away from the college.
