Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital is a recognised dental college established in the year 1992 that is located in Alkola, Shimoga, Karnataka. This affiliated college recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI) focuses on bringing different dental programmes and is located in 5.5 acres land. It is a dental college with a faculty strength of 171 members and offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses. The courses that are offered by Sharavathi Dental College are 6 courses that runs under 2 degree, The offered courses are known as Dental Prosthodontics, Dental Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and other courses.

Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital has a number of great features aimed at improving students’ facilities in and outside the classroom as well as their general health. This new advanced dental clinic is fully facilitated with endodontics, cryosurgery as well as the Ultrasonic Scaler and digital radiography equipment. Labelling of students to many operating phantom head labs with one hundred dental working post for pre-clinical exercises clearly shows that most students are privileged with enough laboratory facilities. The college library functions as a crucible for learning where a variety of resources are available for students, and a digital library facility. For students’ accommodation, there are individual hostels for male and female students; one has the accommodation of over two hundred and forty- four students while the other has accommodation for over four hundred students. The campus has also installed facilities for various sports, a multi-gym and a canteen that offers quality vegetarian food products with a taste.

At present, Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital provides various courses for Dental Education. The college offers only one undergraduate course which is Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with a total sanctioned intake of 100. Postgraduate programmes includes five Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses with limited seats of 2-3 each. Some of them include Master of Dental Sciences in Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Conservative dentistry and Endodontics, and Periodontology. All course offerings are full time programmes and all students get intense and practical training in their areas of specialisation.

Admission for Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital is made only through National level entrance tests. In the case of the BDS programme, the admission process is done through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Under Graduate (NEET-UG). Most of the MDS admissions is done by following NEET MDS ranks with counselling conducted by the government’s CET cell.
