Shivalik Institute of Education and Research, Mohali (SIER) is one of the renowned institutions started in 2005. This is a co-educational institution wherein the students of Phase VI, Mohali, Punjab, are prepared for futures as educators. Like any affiliated college, SIER is recognised under the approval of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to maintain the quality standard for teacher education in the nation. 

The institute occupies a small area of three acres, and it gives a student-orientated and highly focused approach with 91 students enrolled. As per today, SIER has 8 strong members of faculties and a good student-to-teacher ratio, which is helpful in providing individual attention to the students and enhancing the quality of the education system.

Some of these are Sporting facilities To advance the learning capability and personal development of the students, the institute has installed various facilities. There is a fully equipped library on the first floor with an area of 5000 sq. m, and 50 students can sit at a time. It contains several volumes of books and journals in education to supplement the campus’s educational needs the students and faculty. 

The institutes focus on technology is well summed up in the ICT lab equipped with computers, TVs, OHPs, LCDs, laptops, and multimedia systems, which makes the students prepare for modern techniques of teaching. As far as the physical health of the stakeholders is concerned, SIER has provisions for gyms and other sporting activities such as gymnastics, athletics, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball hockey, and football. 

The campus also contains science laboratory facilities for the physics, chemistry, and biology units to enhance practical content lessons. An airy central hall with a seating capacity of 1,100 and an ‘air-conditioned’ facility is a focal point of the students 'academic', 'literary', and ‘cultural’ activities. Further, the institute has hostel accommodation for both male and female students with a dining hall where they are served quality and healthy meals.

Shivalik Institute of Education and Research offers two full-time postgraduate programmes: Bachelors in Education, B.ED., and Masters in Education, MA Education. Both programmes take two years, and the intake capacity of the programmes is 40 students each; therefore, total seats for all courses are 80. The B.Ed. programme is intended for practice teaching careers of students, and the MA Education programme provides education theory and practice. All these programmes are a result of SIER’s commitment to offer comprehensive teacher education as well as educational leadership.

The admission procedure followed at Shivalik Institute of Education and Research, especially for B.ED. courses, is that admission is given according to the merit of the student. The admission process depends on the marks that a student secures in the qualifying as well as the entrance examination for the relevant course or by following any other procedure that is being prescribed by the state government, Union Territory administration, and the affiliated university.
