Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah Government Arts and Commerce College was started in the year 1968 in Bhadravathi, Shimoga district of Karnataka. This affiliated college, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has IT, Management, Commerce and Science streams offering 3 courses in 3 degree programmes. The college is located on a 5 acre land and total number of students enroled are 883 and total number of faculties are 29. It offers combination of Arts, Commerce and Management education with specialisations in Kannada, History, Political Science, Economics, Commerce, and Business Administration.

Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah Government Arts and Commerce College is equally determined to create a rich learning experience for the students it serves. It has a well-equipped library that possesses over 30,870 books, out of which syllabus books are in excess of 27,000 Besides, it has access to 16 national level journals and 37 periodicals. The building also houses newer ICT facilities as well as computer laboratory. For the sports enthusiasts, the college offers good facilities namely, a large playground to play on for football, cricket, hockey, and kho-kho, indoor sports facilities for playing carrom and table tennis. A new multi-gymnasium has been under construction, and would comprise badminton court, power lifting hall, weight lifting hall and body building hall.
