Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, Kannur was founded in 1967 as an affiliated college. The institution is spread over 13 acres of area and delivers a wide variety of undergraduate as well as post graduate programmes. The recognition goes to National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the college has total strength of 2161 students which is 80% female and 20% male especially at undergraduate level. The college has 63 faculty members, and it teaches 19 courses in 6 degree programmes through Arts, Science, and Commerce fields.

Sir Syed College offers several amenities for the improvement of the student’s education experience. The central library is a fully computerised with over 40 thousand books and 7 thousand and a hundred journals, having access to e-resources via NLIST. For the sports enthusiast, the campus has a football field, sports shed and also play grounds for different games. The college also has a guest house for both sexes as well as arrangement of living comfortably in separate hostels for boys as well as girls. A multi-gym station corresponds to the fitness requirements, and computational requirements as the computer centre caters to the requisite of learning. The large hall with huge seating capacity can accommodate various college events and functions including state functions, prize giving, sports day, music all and other celebrations among students.

Nineteen courses are offered in Sir Syed College at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It offers thirteen full time undergraduate programmes and six postgraduate programmes. The overall approved capacity for all the courses is computed to be 631 students. The enrolment, overall across its invented programs, totaled 2,161 students within the last academic year, of which 1,939 students were in undergraduate levels while 222 were in postgraduate levels. The courses are BA in History, Economics, Functional English, Malayalam, Arabic, B.Sc in Forestry, Botany, Physics, Zoology, and so on.
