Sonari College was established in the year 1970 and is a co-educational college located in Charaideo, Assam. The college is an affiliated college offering a wide array of undergraduate programmes, spread over an area of 6.612 acres. The total enrolment within Sonari College is 1,328 students with a faculty strength of 31 members. This has maintained good gender balance for the college, with 55% as female and 45% as male students. The college offers 14 courses in 4-degree programmes, the science and arts being the main bulwarks. All students hail from within the state, therefore reflecting a strong local entry and local appeal. 

The Sonari College  has a variety of facilities designed to improve the overall experience for students. A newly built boys' hostel contains 30 students with the hostels sharing space for 70 girls, with a preference given to students on the basis of both merit as well as distance from home of the candidate. The colleges offered programmes primarily meant for Bachelors of Arts and B.Sc degrees, within major subjects like English, Assamese, Political Science, History, Economics, Education, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, and Zoology.
