Sonkar College, Mungeli: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

To explicate understandings regarding the impacts of these issues, the present study focuses on the Sonkar College of Mungeli which was established in 2016 and is situated in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. This Private Undergraduate College occupies a relatively small area of 4.85 Acres and has a diverse academic portfolio. Overall 192 students are taken in by Sonkar College at present and 12 faculty members are there at college. It has been approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which defines the quality standards for its teacher education programme. Sonkar College currently offers four undergraduate degrees: provide General, Science, Commerce and education streams for students who wish to pursue Bachelors degree in Arts,Science Commerce and Education respectively. 

The college provides a number of strategic infrastructures specifically developed towards improving the students’ experience as well as assisting their learning activities. It is a learning resource centre that helps the students in their studies by offering the needed information. To the lovers of sporting activities, the college has sport amenities to ensure one can exercise whilst at college but not compromise on his/her studies. A place on the campus known as auditorium is used for occasion and seminars in order to support a joyful college life. The college also has well equipped laboratory especially for the students in the field of science most especially when attending practicals. A cafeteria on the compound serves as a dining and relaxation hall for the members of staff and students. Accepting modern educational technologies Sonkar College has interesting IT facilities. In a similar manner, the college ensures that it affords the students a health status by having a health center with First Aid facilities. 

Currently, Sonkar College teaches four full time undergraduate courses thus ensuring that the institution produces competent and professional oriented students in different fields. All the programmes offered have a capacity of taking in a total of 50 students per batch for the BA and the B.Sc programmes with 50 students for the B.Ed programme as well. The B.Com program is also offered but the exact capacity which a particular course can intake is not given. All these programmes are supposed to take three years save for the B.Ed programme which is a two year programme. The opportunities provided for student enable them to select a program that best suits their specialty and desired careers. 

At Sonkar College, all students are granted admittance based on different programs of their preference. For students of the B.Ed program the admission will primarily be on merit that will include marks in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The college implements the selection policies governing the state government, Union Territory administration, and the university. It is also probable that admission into other programs being offered by the Kakamega Polytechnic such as the BA, B.Sc, and B.Com also admission is on merit as well but the details are not given.
