The Sou Mangaltai Ramchandra Jagtap Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Umbraj was established in 1989 and is an affiliated college at Umbraj, Karad Taluka, Satara District, Maharashtra. This women college has been in the ministry of providing quality education for female students for more than thirty years now. The institute currently has a total of 228 students and there are twenty three faculty members which makes it easier for students to be attendees. The college provides two undergraduate degree programmes: The two available undergraduate programmes are the full time 3-year programmes Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com).
Sou Mangaltai Ramchandra Jagtap Mahila Mahavidyalaya provides various amenities to enhance its students in their academic and / or personal development endeavours. Sources of these amenities include the Central Library established since 1989 and has been through some changes. Now, It has a user-centered approach with incorporating modern technological tools in its services such as internet facility, online public access catalog (OPAC), e- resources such as e-books and e-journals and the access to N-List database. The college has well equipped laboratories for practical and skills enhancement faculties and college. To cater for the modern technological world, the institute has availed user enhanced facilities in information technology. The large sports hall for students’ physical exercises includes sports facilities and a gym. The campus also has the event venue for seminars and meetings as the auditorium, and a place for snacks and drinks as the cafeteria. In particular, there is also a girls hostel which allows students who live in distant areas to be accommodated safely at the college. An emergency first aid center is also in the compound so that students’ welfare is well catered for.
The two main courses of Sou Mangaltai Ramchandra Jagtap Mahila Mahavidyalaya form a narrow area of specialisation. The BA and B.Com programme are on-campus, full time courses that proffer an all-round education in their subjects. The total student intake capacity is 228 students further affirming the SGRC’s policy of embracing a rational student teacher ratio for positive learning. Neither courses offered within these programmes nor specific specialisations are described In detail; however, the general purpose of the programmes is to provide learners with adequate knowledge and skills to address challenges within their areas of study.
