In 1995, Sri Balaji Polytechnic College was set up by the visionary Sri G. V. Velu, who actually wished to see himself set up a prestigious technical institution in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to Anna University for all academic purposes. This sprawling campus on 10.79 acres of land, amidst a supportive and serene atmosphere, offers an excellent technical education hub to Chennai. The AICTE recognized institution has a distinct position in giving high-quality training under its diploma courses in engineering fields. Sri Balaji Polytechnic College has a total of 940 enrolled students, with a faculty strength of 74 members, thus ensuring a student-teacher ratio to facilitate personal attention and effective learning.

There are many facilities that make learning an enjoyable experience at the institution. The backbone of the academic resources lies in the library, which is well-stocked with technical literature and reference materials for students to refer to. The institution is a paradise for those interested in sporting and fitness activities, with excellent sports facilities and ultra-modern gymnasiums that go with the physical as well as mental development. Totally state-of-the-art labs are provided for all the departments, through which students can get hands-on experience and learn practically about their respective streams. There is a canteen on campus equipped to provide healthy meals. A health center is also available with first-aid facilities to cater to the health issues of the students. Transport facilities, for both faculty and students, have been made available to and from the college.

Sri Balaji Polytechnic College offers diploma in all the following courses. Every course offered here is a three-year full-time course. Currently, the college has provided seven types of diploma programs to cover all branches of engineering. The courses include Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Diploma in Computer Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering, and Diploma in Automobile Engineering.

The admission process of Sri Balaji Polytechnic College has been framed in very basic ways so that each and every candidate who wants to get admission into the college can easily approach it. Admission is based on the performance achieved by the students in their 10th standard or equivalent examination. The college, probably follows the admission policy of the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu.
